Will my motherboard recognize the slower RAM and run it at that speed?

My dad wants me to test a stick of 512MB PC2700 but right now I'm on an 865 board (P4P800 Deluxe) using 2x 256MB PC3200 sticks of Corsair. I want to be sure that if I take those two out and put in this PC2700 stick, the motherboard won't try running it at PC3200 speeds.

I haven't ever really done anything like this and so I don't know the motherboard handles changes in RAM speed. Should I just downclock my current sticks to PC2700 and run it? Will I have to mess with dividers or will it do that on its own for me?

Unless you specified advanced RAM timings or frequency settings in the BIOS, it should automatically detect the speed of the new module and downclock appropriately.

I didn't overclock at all, but I did set ram timings pretty lower since I'm using some Corsair XMS stuff, and this stuff I need to test is from Centon or something.
