Will my mobo work with this chip?

I have a FIC AZ11 mobo. Acording to the FIC website, it will only support up to a 1.1GHz Athlon. I really want to put one of those XP 1600 chips in it, but I don't want to buy one and find out it won't work. Has anyone ever tried that chip in an AZ11?

unless my memory is failing the fic az11 is based on the kt133 chipset (if this is incorrect ignore the rest of my post 😀 )

the kt133 only supports 100mhz fsb (and can only overclock to about 110mhz fsb) so you will not be able to run the athlonXP since they all use the 166mhz fsb

in theory (and if fic has released new bios updates) you should be able to run any of the durons, including the new ones based on the morgan core, and you should be able to use any of the old 100mhz athlons (they were made up to speed 1.4ghz)

just remember any athlon from 1ghz to 1.4ghz comes in one of two flavors some are for a 133mhz fsb and some for a 100mhz fsb... make sure you get one for a 100mhz fsb (since the athlon bus is double pumped 100mhz chips are often marketed as 200mhz)

hehe i just reread that and its kinda confusing 🙂

so for an example
1.0ghz(200) is designed for a 100mhz fsb (this should work with no problems)
1.0ghz(266) is designed for a 133mhz fsb (this wont work on your board... well at least it wont run at the correct speed at default settings)
