Hi all,

I have just found out that my Mobo is a A7V8X and not a A7V8X - X. I have just ordered myself a new 2500+ Barton(It hasn't arrived yet)

Is this going to affect how much I overclock it by? (Please say no :) )

Mark.

Mobo - ASUS A7V8X
AMD XP 2000+ (Palomine :( )
512MB - PC2700 DDR SDRAM 184 Dimm
Geforce Ti4200 64MB
Coolmaster HSF (Adjustable)

Yeah I was aware my RAM Might be a problem, but other people with PC2700 have been ok by adjusting their timings.

I wasjust concerned about my Mobo.

Thanks anyway

Mark

p.s. hopefully nobodies got any conflicting views :)

The mobo takes a central role in overclocking. Yes, every mobo can restrict a high overclock. Heat is an increasing issue every time a faster cpu along w/ a faster FSB is released. The northbridge takes a bigger hit each time in most cases. I can see your mobo is running a VIA KT400 chipset, which doesn't implement an AGP/PCI lock, meaning your videocard and harddrive for example could actually prevent you from overclocking to what could be your max given your other hardware components can handle it. Usually ATA HDD's are fine @ around 240MHz FSB and below, but my 80gig WD gave out @ around 230MHz using the KT800 chipset and got some corrupted files leaving me to reformat. Most chipsets now a days has an agp/pci lock, except VIA's. Good luck on overclocking, that 2500+ is a sweet value vs. performance. LMK what you can pull outta it! :D

There's not really much luck to that. Should be easy.
