will my laptop run the internet

i just received a NEC Versa 4230C laptop. It has 40 Meg of ram, a 1 gig harddrive, cd drive, and has a pentium processor. Will all I be able to do is run word processing or can I get on the internet with this?

the NEC Versa 4230C is a Pentium 133. That with 40 Megs RAM will run the net but do not try to do too much at the same time. Run windows 98 and just use one app like say IE at time. With the 40 megs RAM if you do any multitasking it will grind and grind. I used a Toshiba 225CDS with the same 133 CPU and 40 megs ram for a while with my EDIMax WiFi card. It worked fine just SLOW. Everything took a while to load but otherwise I could to chat, email and web. Only reason I used it at the time was my battery in my IBM thinkpad was dead and I wanted to go to a local restraunt and use their WiFi and the Toshiba had the only battery that would hold a charge! Like I said it worked just had to wait but bid and won an Ebay auction while eating lunch!!!

Good Luck.

Should be fine if u r patient, i don't have any probs other than its slooooow on my old toshiba tecra with a pentium 120mhz, 64mb ram with winamp running 🙂 Tho winamp skips every now and then- esp i d/l anything

EDIT: 98SE is the OS

Nothing bulkier than 98, and be careful of the heavy java content on some sites.

Java, Flash, Shockwave, etc - some Java applets can take Firefox about 15 seconds to load up fully on my 2.3GHz Barton with 1GB RAM. On the system you describe, you could go take a walk before they'd load.
