Will my current PSU suffice?

OK, I'm new here, but from the posts I've read, it seems like there is a lot of knowledge on these boards, so here we go.

I have an Antec Smartpower 2.0 450W PSU that came with the Sonata 2 case.

I am planning on upgrading to the following equipment:
ABIT IP35-E
Q6600
HD 3870
2 x 2GB PC2 6400
2 x HDD
1 x DVD burner


Will my PSU be powerful enough for this system?

You should get a new power supply.

450 Watts is enough, but a little more headroom will stress the PSU alot less and help it last longer...the Antec Smartpower line are notorious for blowing capactiors, basically you have a ticking time bomb on your hand, especially if you begin to stress it enough.
 
I had a Q6600, 8600GT, (2) 320GB SATA 2, 2 x2GB DDR2-800, TV Tuner all running just fine on the stock 350w PSU in my HP Pavilion m9000t. It is a rather cheap Delta Electronics unit with 300W combined power on the 12V rail. I replaced it with a Corsair VX450 as there was no PCI-E cable on the 350w and I need that for a new video card.

I'm sure the Antec 450W supplies quite a bit more power than the stock HP PSU. Dont' get too hung up on the PSU, very rarely do you or will you run everything at full power.

Just my opinion, but I would try it out and see how things work before dumping more cash on a new PSU until you know what yours can do.

It will probably suffice but if your going to put money into a new system why not go ahead and get a new PSU.

Those Smartpowers are notorious for dying suddenly and quite violently. Go for one of the Antec Earthwatts which are made by Seasonic. The 430 is $50 at newegg right now and would probably be enough for your system.
 
Get an Antec Earthwatts or something. The 450 watt model is on sale at newegg right now and it's a good investment. It would give you more than enough power for your needs and it might help shave a few bucks off your electric bill every month.
 
OK, thanks for the replies everyone. So one more question, if I'm going to dig deeper and buy a new PSU, is there any reason not to go bigger and get the Antec TruePower Trio 550W? It has an 8pin CPU connector (which the mobo also has) so it may be a bit more futureproof.

Let me know what you think.
 
If you're going up to a 550W I would suggest something in the arena of the Corsair HX520 or the VX550, they're both good power supplies. The TruPower Trio is no longer a seasonic OEM so it's not going to be the same quality and it's more than likely going to be louder.
