Will my CPU bottleneck a GTX 780ti?

Hello all,
I am close to pulling the trigger on a GTX 780ti (upgrading from a R9280x). I have a 2600k CPU and just making sure that the 780ti won't be held back. The rest of my rig is below:

Asus z68 pro mb
16 gigs of Kingston hyperX ram
160 gig intel SSD
Caviar Black 1 tb HD
Corsair AX 750 PS

I play at 1080p and I know this is overkill for now, but will be up grading to a higher resolution in the future.

It depends greatly on the overclock on your 2600k. Overlocked to 4Ghz +, preferably 4.3 - 4.5 and higher and your bottleneck should be minimal.

Ultimately depends on the game, but like XiandreX said, try to get it over 4.3GHz.

Thanks!
I will consider my options, I have never overclocked before, but I have an after market cooler and my friend OC'd it to 4 gigs with no issues for 2 years. I accidently put it back to factory while messing around with the AI suite. I will try to find a OC guide.

Thanks again.

You can check around some CPU centric game performance reviews to get a better idea of where the 2600k lands.

CPU limited is important mostly around the min frame rates it can deliver.

So if your GPU can deliver 1000fps and CPU can deliver 500fps you will be CPU bound because you are not getting your max possible frames.

But it makes more sense if you are running a 60hz monitor to consider if your CPU can deliver 60fps the majority of the time and consider how this will affect your GPU performance relative to what min frames you need.

I don't think you will be bound by a 2600k at stock to much if any extent in the majority of games, but again check around some reviews. Basically, from what I have seen, the 2600k can deliver 60fps plus nearly always. Hitman absolution is particularly cpu bound in it's benchmark, so that's one to look for, but that's just one data point.

Cliffs: Grab that 780 and go baby.

Just put the multiplier on bios at 45. It should be enough from the board to handle it without any issues on automatic settings the rest. If not clock it to 44. If you got time and like it then try to tweak it.
I use my at 45x rest on stock(auto) on a Asus p8p67 deluxe. Works very well.

P.s. read the quide first it should help you understand things. And ofc carefull if you have stock CPU fan. Buy a aftermarket CPU cooler for it if you OC.

well that's an overclocking CPU, so you just change the multiplier and u're good to go. not very complicated.

Thanks for all the replies today. Got the MSI GTX 780ti and just installed it. I couldn't pass it up....it is beautiful. Going to pay some BF4 and attempt some OCing of my CPU on the weekend.

Cheers!
