Will my cpu bottleneck a 6950?

I have the cpu in the signature a 6600 quad core running at 3150mhz. I would like to upgrade my 8800gt and get a 6950. Would the cpu bottleneck it much?

yes but in most games not enough to matter. you need to list your resolution though as that will determine how much of a bottleneck your cpu will be. if you are below 1920 then a 6870 or 6850 will be more appropriate.

a 6950 would would be fine just don't expect to get the same performance in all games that you see in 6950 reviews. even a 6850 or 6870 would be a massive upgrade over an 8800gt though if you are looking to save some money.

Abit probably.. but mostly at lower resolutions, if you game at ~1920x resolutions, cpu bottleneck wont be to bad (and it ll perform a hellva lot better than a 8800gt).

Go for it, should be a huge boost in performance.

Main issue will probably be minimum FPS more than anything else, most games are still GPU limited with a semi-decent CPU, especially at that res.

Usually when your CPU bottlenecked, your minimum FPS are close to your Maximum FPS, showing that its not the "graphic cards" fault, but the cpus (that you arnt getting more fps).

So no minimum fps wont be a issue for him... hes cpu bottlenecked by abit.
(he will have low max fps, and minimum fps close to his max fps)

about the resolution thingy, if hes heavly cpu bottlenecked, playing at 1920x resolution, wont cost him much performance vs a lower resolution (because its the cpu holding him back from haveing insane high fps, not the gpu).

Yes the CPU may be a bottleneck in some situations, but it will be a major upgrade regardless.

^this

what guy above said, its bound to be a huge boost in performance, comeing from a 8800GT.

I will be ordering my GTX 570 next paycheck and running it on my 3GHz c2d system. At least until the new SB boards become available. :)

You’ll see a massive performance gain from a 6950 across the board in most situations providing you run games at reasonable detail levels.
