Will my computer be able to handle SC2?

All,

I am thinking of upgrading, but before I do, here is my current computer:

Macbook: (1 year old)
2ghz core 2 duo
2gigs ddr3 ram
nvidia 9400m (integrated card)

Will I be able to play starcraft 2? If so what details/resolution?

Thanks,

You'll be able to play it, probably on low-med however. Also you can't upgrade that computer if thats what you were thinking.

Dang, if I brought my MBP into work today, I could've told you. I'll try to put it on this weekend and report back.

If you're using the notebook's screen you can't go any higher than 1280x800 on a 13" macbook, and can't go any lower than 1024x768 since that's the minimum resolution supported.

SC2 is very CPU dependent than graphics card. And it's also VERY low-end friendly.

My OLD ASS Pentium Xeon Dual-core 2.8 Ghz (FIRST GEN, far far inferior architecture than current C2D) with 4 gigs of ram + 7600 GS ran it at playable 20-25 fps at 1080p with everything on Medium (not even low!)

My new PC in my sig runs it at 30-35 fps with everything max and 70-80 fps on medium.

You can get the beta now just be going to a local game retailer and reserving it for $0-$5 and find out for yourself. The mac client just came out, so you can run it natively. You can play against the AI by making a custom multiplayer match. Also, I don't think low looks very good at all.

Low basically looks worse than SC1. Its basically SC1 in 3d, minus the artistic flair.

Medium - high - ultra all look better and are a lot closer to each other compared to low.

So you guys don't think my system could handle medium?

Would it help if I upgraded the cpu in my mac (not sure if I can do this)

Also, I thought they only gave out a certain number of beta keys. You are saying that I can get the beta now?

You are not going to be able to change your CPU, at least not without effort, and the expense makes it a little silly.

Also, I'm not sure why you would be asking this kind of question about a game that isn't even out yet. The final system requirements have not been determined, as far as I know. Consult the requirements for the beta and make an educated guess about what your machine will be able to handle.

People are still getting beta keys. In fact, the Mac beta only just started. If you preorder from Gamestop or Amazon, I think you will likely get a key. Check deal sites or those specific sellers for details.

i don't think the 9400 can handle medium without being completely unplayable. at low it'll look like crap to be blunt. the cpu is gonna be pretty impossible to change as well. it's more reasonable to buy a cheap rig to play sc2 and eventually d3.

I tested it on my Macbook Pro with the 9400M at 1440x900 all low. It played just fine, so you shouldn't have any problems at 1280x800.

Compared it to Ultra on my gaming rig, yeah it looks bad, but it's not unplayable by any means. In fact, I bet the pros will play it on all low because there are fewer effects to distract you from the game.

Why would you want to play it on medium? You want to play it at the lowest settings so you can actually see all the units clearly.
