I am sending my cat to a new home due to allergies. She will be well taken care of there, probably better than she got here due to my allergies. I feel bad though. I raised her from 8 weeks till now she is 2 and a half. I want to know that she will get over me as soon as her new owner give her a nice meal heh... that's how it works with cats right? She wont be too sad will she?

I personally believe cats form a special bond with their owner. My parents cat, who I spent all my time with for 8 years, I swear still recognizes me whenever I visit. He does the same things he would only do with me.

Yep. Even grumpy cats will eventually adapt. I took care of a relative's older cat while she was going through an extended stay in the hospital. That cat... did not like me. Or anyone except for her.

After about a week though he would randomly jump up on the couch with me and started headbutting me until I would pet him though.

Probably too far into a Meth habit by now to remember anything.....

Seriously though, probably will feel sad for awhile and will never forget you. However, they adapt and as long as the new people are attentive to its' needs, it will be happy.

You could try allergy medicine. My neighbor has a few cats, and takes allergy medicine so she can keep them. Seems to work for her.

I rather doubt it's a good idea to take Allergy medicine for a long period of time. It suppresses a bodily function, many may develop an immunity to the active ingredients nullifying their effectiveness, and there are potential side effects some of which can be very serious.

I'm no Doctor though.

If at all possible I would try to keep her; I inherited my mothers cats when she died and they will stay with me though, so I am probably not objective.

OK, I should've elaborated. My cat, Max, is not a cuddly cat. He won't even sit on my parents laps. When I lived at home, if I was laying on the bed, he would essentially lay right on top of me. He was a very affectionate cat, but only with me

Eh, I hope not. I've been taking Allegra for 5 years now. On the few occasions when I've missed a few days of doses, I've wanted to scratch my skin until it bleeds.

Animal allergies may require the shots, though, and like all (I think) anti-allergy measures, they take a while to kick in.

Hopefully your Doctor is aware and approves of that. Long term Self Medicating with OTC drugs is just not a good idea.

My job requires that I be away from home for two-three weeks at a stretch a few times per year. My wife reports that two of our cats mope from the time they figure out I'm not coming home in the evening of the first day until I get home, every single time I'm gone. We have very emo cats though.

I think they remember but don't give a fuck.

I befriended a stray cat who then followed me home once when I was living in this lady's basement (I stayed where I could in those days) and she did NOT want a cat hanging around.
The bitch drove the cat out away out of the neighborhood and tossed it out the window. 3 days later it had returned from miles away. He remembered. I think someone we knew adopted it eventually.

I also had a cat named Shadow when I was about 20 years old. She wasn't fixed. She disappeared for 4 months. Strolled through the door one day pregnant and nasty and just jumped on the couch and went to sleep without even acknowledging us. We even had a new cat by then and she just ignored the whole scene. She eventually lived out her days at my parents house, and when I visited she acted like she didn't even recognize me after a couple years. So she remembered but there were no fucks given.

She will eventually adapt though many better socialized cats pick out one person that is their "special human" and only do certain behaviors with them. We got two Maine my excellent compatriot kittens a couple years back and it is even more pronounced with them. The cat that favors me demands to sleep in the bed with her head on my pillow or to curl up in my lap when I'm using the computer....behaviors she most certainly does not exhibit with my fiance.

A good one just suppresses a defect... however you are right about developing a tolerance to them.
