I'm starting to plan for my next upgrade. Either opty or C2D. But have a older 20pin True Power 430W. WIll a 20-24pin adapter be enough to carry new 24pin boards with PIC-E cards? Need some opinions.

you can actually plug the 20 pin into the 24 pin plug on the mobo, though it probably wouldnt be a good idea if you plan on running high end stuff.

I just built a rig for a friend with a 480W True Power plugged into an Epox NF4 board without the 20-24 pin adapter and it works just fine.

My True Power 430W powers my C2D cpu, 2 DVD burners, 4 7200rpm HD's and an AGP X850XT with no issues. Haven't tried a PCI-E card with it yet though.

tx guys. If it works would save myself like 70-80 bucks for a comparable PS or 100 buck for a seasonic which I really like to get but their price will never come down. ut I might just opt for a enhance 5150, cheap and reliable workhorse.

My Antec Trupower 430 with 20>24 pin adapter on an Asus P5WDH with E6400@3.2Ghz and two SATA drives, one DVD optical and 7900GTX @ 675/850. No issues whatsoever.

Thor86, you seem to be running quite a bit on that PS. alright I think I'll just get an adapter and let it go for a while. If all shows up fine then I'll just pass on getting a new PS. Tx for the info.

I wouldn't recommend it with a high end video card...but I built a system with a 450watt True Power 2 and it ran the E6300 c2d at 3.4ghz range....Granted I only had a simple ATI x550se card so it wasn't a power hog. Didn't even have a pci-express plug on the card.

IMO if you dont plan on ocing I think 450-480 should be fine...If you plan on ocing the C2D then get 500+watts...
