will mx510 improve my gaming?

I have a plain Logitech optical mouse for the past year and was wondering if the new MX 510 will improve my gaming somewhat? I play FPS's online and need precision and lotta movement ... and accurate pin point control for shooting. So should I go ahead and spend 50 bux on MX510 or not?

Well, I don't think there's much difference in speed between the mice in the MX series but if your current mouse isn't an MX you may notice a difference (I've got a MX500 so going to the 510 wouldn't do much I don't think). However the MX510 is loaded with buttons so if extra buttons are important to you then it would help your gaming.

Buttons arent important to me. My plain old Logitech optical mouse has fallen behind and I get smoked a lot by people with a better mouse --- more precision and smooth movement. Just wondering if people here noticed improved gaming.

It will help somewhat if you are having tracking issues w/ your current mouse, but otherwise their will be no diff but the extra buttons.

You know, it really does depend on what mouse you're going from. I had an old Microsoft Intellimouse mouse at home for ages, and it kept getting gunked up. I just couldn't get myself to try something different. I finally gave the MX-510 a shot, and I don't think I can ever go back. I now have one red one, and one blue one on each of my systems.

But, on the other hand, I have an MX-500 at work...and I honestly can't really tell the difference. I don't get much chance to do any gaming at the office, but I have played a few rounds of UT2K4 there. Very very tough to tell the diff.

btw, the MX500 was a lot more heavier so I had to open it up and take out the excess weight. Plus the logo faded out real fast and became crusty due to my sweat.

The MX510 was perfect weight, I didn't have to open it up, and it looks real nice, the buttons are extremely responsive and the scoll whell is just right. Onlly problem I have with it is that my sweat crusts up on the two clicky buttons but thats ok, I just scratch it off.

i seriuosly was skeptical....

was an owner of a mx500 mouse, i thought no way it could get better... just got my RED mx510 and i can seriously notice a better tracking when i play counter strike

but that is my own opinion.

no, i do not work for logitech.

seriously though, i find it to be omfortable and tracks very fast. the plethora of progammable buttons is neato too. Overall, it feels good, and it responds very quick, although that could be in my mind.

I like mine, and think it is a great mouse, better then the MS optical one i had before.

Yes, of course the mouse is the reason you're losing. 🙂 jk...

If you have an old optical mouse, especially those old white logitech ones, then there should be a noticable improvement.

Agreed, but what about those people with relatively decent skills, that suddenly find themselves doing much worse, with a new/different mouse?

Controls DO make a difference, both in terms of technical specs, and in terms of more subjective human-factors compatibility issues. (Such as size/shape/weight.)

Those factors tend to suggest that the "placebo factor" is probably smaller than the real issues. I know when I switched from my old roller-ball two-button mouse to a fancy 5-button optical one, that I later discovered had half the DPI of my mechanical one, my FPH went way down in UT. So now I use my 5-button for web browsing, and my good old 2-button PS/2 for "serious gaming". 🙂

(Yeah, I should probably try out one of those MX510s some day. But my current $1 mouse serves me pretty well for gaming right now.)

I have a blue MX510, it's a very good investment. Hardware gives you the edge. Oh wait, no it doesn't, if you don't have good hardware then you're at a disadvantage. 🙂

Well, you have to get used to all new things first. For instance, say you're very productive using Photoshop 5.5. You upgrade to Photoshop 6.0 and find all of the controls in different places. Adobe moved them for a reason, because they believe they are improving the efficiency of the program. Now at first you may be slower doing work while you adjust to the new features. However in the long run your efficiency may have a potential to be higher.

Went from a plain Logitech optical mouse to an MX510 and notice no improvement at all in my game. The only thing I like about the MX510 is the extra buttons, but other than that a plain optical mouse is fine for me.
