Hi,
I have a Duron 750 (not OC) with 128 mb's of PC133 Cas3 Apacer RAM and I'm running Windows 98SE.

If I were to install a stick of Crucial 256 mb PC133 Cas2 RAM in it, would I see any difference in system performance?

I'm running mostly business apps, but I also have cable internet (if that makes any difference?) I also occasionally run apps like Photoshop and Illustrator on this machine.

The reason why I'm asking is because I bought a cheap pc with only 32 mb's of RAM and I want to upgrade. What I was thinking about doing is buying a stick of PC133 256 mb Crucial Cas2 for my main system (run the system at Cas2 instead of Cas3) and then take the cheap 128 mb stick of PC133 and put it in the cheap pc. The cheap pc will not allow me to change Cas settings and it's only running at 66 mhz anyway, so it wouldn't really matter.

What do you think?

TIA,

Sal

so...you'll have 256 in the system and not 384? id say do it. i mean it wont be like having a new system, but that extra 128@cl2 will be a nice little improvement. id say go for it. just hope the placebo effect works :)

No.. I plan to take the cheap 128 mb's of PC133 Ram out of my main system and put it in the cheap system as an upgrade. I will be buying a stick of Crucial 256 mb of Cas2 for it instead to replace the cheap 128 mb Cas3 pc133.

The other thing I could do is buy a stick of 128 mb Cas2 Crucial for the main machine and take the Cas3 out of it and put it in the cheap computer. It would save me about $30 bucks doing it this way I guess.

I just wanted to know if the extra 128 mb's of RAM running at Cas2 instead of Cas3 would make any difference for surfing cable internet and using Office in a Windows 98SE environment on this Duron 750.

Thanks again,

Sal

id say go with 256 mb dimm from crucial, you should definately see a difference, specially if you run office and a few open IE windows like most people to copy/paste or search etc.

Almost everyone nowadays have at least 256bm. 256 is a good number for Windows. Just do it!

You'll be much happier with performance in Photoshop, etc. with that additional RAM. (and your cheap computer will be much happier, also :).
