Will Microsoft be releasing an updated IE browser anytime soon?

If so, when? I would love to see their new and updated features that I'm sure they've been meaning to implement. Tabbed windows, etc.

What would you like to see in the next version of IE?

No more browser releases for IE. It will now just be part of the OS, and there will be no new browser-only upgrades involved. Try Mozilla Firebird 0.6.1, I love it as do lots of others. Tabbed browser, modular form with lots of extensions, pop-up blocking. Fast as hell too.

One could only hope so for the reasons that jumpr said, but I dont think it will happen anytime soon. I suspect they wont release anything new until they start to roll out the palladium stuff on a larger scale, seeing as how theyve put so much effort into it lately.

For a legitimate reply, the last I've heard, is they are working on 7.0, but it will be the last release of IE as it is now. If they do come out with IE 8, I will be a complete standalone browser. (ie, not integrated into windows the way it is now.). Im guessing this new release will come on Longhorn, and will only be available for Longhorn or bettter.

Quite the opposite. They are not making anymore standalone browsers. 6.0 was the end. Then next version will be part of Longhorn in 2005. They don't seem to care about the browser wars anymore being every other browser on the market has better features than IE. IE's only claim to fame was it's speed and it seems Firebird caught up to it (if not surpassed it) in that department.

Only for some things is Firebird faster. IE is still one of the speediest browsers available and it renders pages much differently than mozilla, in a way that many people prefer.

I have been using Firebird for six months and have not come across one site that it renders dramatically different than IE.

I don't get why people love Tabbed Browsing. ALT-TAB to other IE windows is much faster than finding --> clicking those damn tabs.

It's because the site is non-standard. Mozilla is rendering it correctly. IE is not.

Any surprise at the logo at the top?
it renders decently in Firebird for me, and I don't have IE installed so I can't compare. Screenshot?
