Will Matrox upgrade (Millenium to G450) be noticable?

I'm using an old Matrox Millenium w/ 2MB memory. My monitor is a Princeton Ultra 92 running at 1152x864 w/ 16 bits and 77.6 KHz / 85 Hz.

My question is, if I upgrade to the Matrox G450, will I notice an appreciable improvement in text clarity? What kind of improvements will I see just based on the video card upgrade?

Of course, I'll be upgrading to a newer motherboard, cpu, etc, as soon as the new KT133A motherboards become available.

My goal? The best text I can get. Outside of getting a laptop with a digital screen, is my current monitor giving me anywhere near very good text relative to what's out there...hmmm.

Maybe a laptop is my best bet. I just program, and a powerful cpu isn't my top priority. I just want to read text and program in Java. Dange, I think I just had an epiphany... or was it just a brain fart?

Pardon the ramble, please finish your response. Thanks.

Don't know about your monitor, but...

I had a MillII, going to a G400 was a nice step up in video quality and 2D speed. Any Matrox card from the G200 up will like improve the quality of your image. That's a 19" monitor, right? I would think that you could boost your resolution (unless your monitor is not so good). I have a Sony 200PS (17") and I was running 1280x1024 when programming. From what I've heard, the G450 is as good as or slightly better than the G400 in image quality, plus they're only ~80 bucks (US) - check out pricewatch.com

Good luck,

G450 is an awesome card. I love mine... (finally sold my Creative TNT2 AGP32meg, had that thing for what seems like eternity. Pretty bad 2D quality at 1600x1200).

More G450 later as I play with it more.
