will lower devices cripple a HDMI 2.0b, 4k@60Hz, HDCP 2.2 switch?

I've been looking at HDMI switches and my head is going to explode.
A lot of switches only work at HDMI 1.4, 4k@30Hz, HDCP 1.2.
HDMI 2.0b, 4k@60Hz, HDCP 2.2 is what I have decided to look for.

I read this on one description:
>PLEASE NOTE: HDMI devices/equipment and TV/display connected (including HDMI cables being used) to the unit must all support the the same HDMI standard version in order to achieve the desired video / audio specification. For example a 4K 30Hz video source connected to a 4K 60Hz display may only show video at 4K 30Hz resolution. A 4K 60Hz video source connected to a 4K 30Hz display may only show 4K 30Hz resolution

That does not mean the switch will use the lowest common denominator for ALL connected devices, right?

im not sure what you are asking. Its saying its not going to magicly make it into 4k@60hz it only does what the source or display can handle... but the real question is when will we get dual displayport adapters etc.. 4k@120hz is what we want.. or 8k@60hz/4k@120hz.. etc etc..

If you have 2 input devices into the switch and 1 is 4k@60Hz and the other is 1080p, will the 4k input be downgraded to only pass through 1080p?

Those are all part of HDMI 2.1 spec. They don’t do it now because 2.0 does not have the bandwidth (displayport 1.4 does have the bandwidth for 4k@120hz, because displayport has 32Gbps of bandwidth while hdmi 2.0 only has 18, which is why the new hdmi 2.1 with 48Gbps bandwidth is needed).

It shouldn’t on a proper switch. It will function at the highest compatible speed between the source and display (i.e. they perform a handshake to determine each other’s capabilities). Not all devices will auto-negotiate both ends (typically only the display auto-negotiates with the source setting its output manually or though firmware that auto senses media such as the dvd, bluray, etc.).
