Question Will laptops with new i9 cpu also suffer from thermal issues?

Hi, somebody mentioned that although Intel has released new 9-gen CPUs, laptops with these new CPUs will also have thermal and noisy fan issues (could be even worse) because they are also 45W TDP. Is this true? Given the same case and cooling system, will those with new 9-gen CPUs be quieter and cooler?

Unless Intel has managed to get the clock speeds without requiring such high PL1/2 over TDP, absolutely. Right now I see most implementations cap the i9 in mobile form to 80-100W. But that’s too much to cool on top of a 100-150W GPU.

Pretty sure most notebook manufacturers will use a cooling solution that can keep up with the new i9 CPU and whatever other components they include.

My hypothesis is that most i9 systems with a discrete GPU will be on the bulkier side to accommodate the larger cooling solutions needed to prevent cpu and/or gpu throttling under continuous heavy loads

I9 systems already exist, and I think they are all already discrete. I haven’t seen any that don’t throttle except for the massive gaming laptops that a thicker than encyclopedias. Companies are mostly putting them in systems that can’t use them, which has always been the case.

Does that include Apple's Mac Pros? I ask because I'm so close to buying one.

Sadly, just google “Mac Pro I9 overheat”. It’s so bad it’s become infamous. They made the decision to thin out the laptop and aren’t even close to the amount of copper they need to cool that thing.

Just get an i7 model. It has all the same performance by the time you account for throttled speeds.

Well after google, I dont know what to think. It seems that Apple fixed the issue back in 2018, with a software fix. I didn't see anything about 2019 pros.

The way I understood the fix is that they simply allowed the thermal management to not be so heavy handed. They get very hot (can’t leave on legs hot) when working. Then they still eventually throttle under sustained workload. Confirm of course, but when I looked a few months ago it still seemed bad
