Will It Run on My New Gaming PC?

Hello, im very new to this forum, I wanted to know if i could run a few games on high/medium settings with no lag, before i buy them here is my specs:
ATI Radeon 5670 HD 1gb Memory
AMD Phenom II x6 1045t 2.8ghz
6gb or ram
750gb HDD
I just wanted to see if I could run a few games like: GTA 4, APB Reloaded, Saints Row The Third.... Please Reply 🙂 Also, I havent upgraded the CPU yet, im still running on my crappy AMD Athlon II X2 250u :thumbsdown::thumbsdown: but I've been reading around the net that quad core is better for gaming over six cores, but I'm purchasing the six core AMD Phenom II x6 1045t 2.8ghzby the end of this week so should I reconsider and get a quad core?

Most games today are still single or dualthreaded. And quads doesnt make that much difference. Atleast not yet. And 6 cores absolutely make no sense for gaming. The x4 965 would be quite faster for gaming. Not to mention 30$ cheaper.

And your graphics card is very very weak as well as your CPU.

What resolution do you play in? Because a HD5670 is quite slow to put it mildly.

The Athlon II X2 250u is a 25W OEM processor. Are you sure your motherboard is compatible with your upgrade choices or that you have the PSU power or case cooling for them?

yep what dominiion said.If its oem system the board wont support a 125wcpu.

also what psu are you going with? you need to upgrade your psu if you put in a new gpu.

I would suggest dropping down to an X4 and put the cash you save toward a stronger video card. A 5670 is just weak.

I cannot think of a single current game that is only single threaded. There are several that are only dual threaded (Starcraft 2, Diablo 3, etc). But there are also a bunch that will use up to 4-6 threads.

So telling somebody that 4-6 cores is a waste for gaming is 100% false and misleading.

Although the OP mentions a slower x6 CPU, so a higher clocked x4 would be faster in many cases.

Disable two of your cores, play BF3 and then please report back.

The games supporting 4 threads can more or less be counted on your hands. When looking at other games like Shogun 2 etc. Its singlethreaded.
Guild Wars 2 also looks singlethreaded or extreme light dualthreaded.

What game supports above 4 threads?

Battlefield 3 and the frostbite 2 engine can easily utilize 8 threads, and there have been many games for several years now that support 4 well enough to warrant owning a quad core for gaming instead of a dual core.

Shogun 2 is most definitely multi-threaded. Even Napoleon used more than one thread.

GW2 also is quad-threaded. Not sure where you heard it was single theaded.

As for the BF3 chart you listed, all that shows is that vsync is working well. It is well known that BF3 will use up to 6 cores. It will nearly peg all four cores on a 4.1GHz Phenom II x4 in large multi player games.

Now stop spreading your FUD.

When I load up Shogun 2 it tends to stay with 1 core maxed only. Guild Wars 2 the same, and I am playing that today.

I dont care if BF3 scales to a 1000 cores. You saw the results.

The BF3 results just show that it is GPU bound at those settings. it says nothing of core usage.

Enjoy your scripted AI benchmarks of single player.

Here is what happens in a 64 player match online. The game cannot be played on a dual core and it can clearly utilize the 8 threads of the I7 or FX processors.

Although I don't have any links, if you paid attention to the early BETA results of BF3 they also showed the game as nearly unplayable on a dual core, it's a shame almost every review on the web does a scripted single player benchmark for CPU tests.

Hey all of you guys, I didnt get the AMD Phenom II x6 1045, it wouldve been a waste of my time and money, so i got the AMD Phenom II x4 965 3.4ghz Black Edition, but I'm not home for the night so i'll tell you guys how it runs, I also got a 600 w PSU which should help out alot, I have a very good feeling about this one 😀

By "clearly use the 8 cores of the FX" you mean lose to the 2500K which has half the cores, right?
