JUST SO SOMEONE WILL DRILL IT INTO MY HEAD, so I will save myself a few hours of pain: Please Answer this Question:

I will not have a RAID setup. I have NO SATA drives. I have the IC7, NON-g version. Are the Intel Application Accelerator drivers ONLY for SATA-Raid setups? Is there any performance benefit to installing it if I don't have this type of setup? Or will it slow things down?

I will be installing WinXP Pro and a P4c 2.4 CPU. I will probably add a SATA drive in maybe a year or so, but not now.

Thanks

The Application Accelerator is not compatible with the 875P chipset that the IC7 uses.

not true. Intel doesnt have plans to release a IAA version that supports ICH5(R) IDE, from now on for all chipsets I think it will only be RAID. If you have a SATA RAID set-up on an IC7 it will work. IAA supports the 875P chipset, but only its SATA RAID function and not it IDE or non-RAID SATA function.

Are you sure about that Hjo3? The 875 chipset is afterall made by Intel!! and all 875 MB's contain the Intel chipset, right, or am I missing a link here?

--------

But would anyone say that if I install the IAA, it would be a bad idea, now? OR should I wait till I get my SATA drive(s)? I want to do it now, as from what I hear I have to do it before installing the OS, right?

Ok, well if IAA supports SATA drives which I'll maybe get in a year or so, should I install it now during/before OS install?? Or would I install IAA when I get my 'new' SATA drive down the line.

The new IAA are only for SATA RAID, they will not install otherwise (Isn't this the second time you have gotten this answer?). The older IAA's probably don't support the new chipset since they are older than its release. Without the IAA, the IC7 moves data just fine with the drivers that come included on the mobo CD.

I suggest www.intel.com for more indepth detail.

The IAA drivers cannot be installed unless you have the ICH5R SouthBridge, and RAID enabled.
If you choose not to enable RAID then the IAA drivers are unable to be installed even if you might wish otherwise.

What are y'all talking about? I installed IAA on my Cusl2 (i815e), and it worked awesome. The load times did change (positively), especially under Studio 8, no frames were lost during Video Capture. excellent $#!+.

Are you talking about 2.3 or 3.0? The new 3.0 is for SATA RAID only.

From http://www.intel.com/support/chipsets/iaa_raid/
The Intel® Application Accelerator RAID Edition software package provides support for high-performance Serial ATA RAID 0 arrays on select Intel® 865 and 875 chipset-based platforms on Windows* XP.

And from http://www.intel.com/support/chipsets/iaa/suppchip.htm
Note: The Intel Application Accelerator is not compatible with the Intel® 875P, 865G/P/PE, 852/855 GM/GME, 855MP, 815EM chipset, the Intel® 440 chipset family, or any earlier Intel chipsets.

We was only talking about the IC7 mobo which has the 875P chipset...

Not true? This page at Intel.com explicitly says Application Accelerator is not compatible with 875P.

They are talking about 875 chipsets, not 815. IAA works great on most 8xx chipsets, but is not available for 865/875 unless you use SATA RAID.

I really hope Intel changes their position on this. I aways liked the IAA performance, and miss it now that I run an 875 based board.

Yeah because they want you to use this one instead. However you must have the SATA RAID enabled in the BIOS in order to get it to install.
