Will it fit?

I just ordered two of THESE and was wondering if it would fit a PII 266. I would probably just slap it on with Arctic Silver thermal adhesive, and put some HSs from an old monitor on the cache chips, but do you think it will fit without hitting anything? I'll have the PII in a day or so, and the HSs in four or five days, but I was just wondering...

For the PII 266 you will need a Slot1 cooler, so I guess you won't be able to use the mentioned cooler. The problem is in the attaching mechanism... Still, you could go with an old Slot1 cooler and replace the fan (maybe a fan adapter would be needed).

Sorry.

I wasn't planning on using an attachment mechanism, just attaching it with Arctic Silver thermal adhesive. It's not like anyone (myself included) will ever want to take it off. My concern with being able to put it on there without it hitting anything. If not then I'll have to get a Slot 1 HS. 🙁

im not sure about p2's, but i do know that amd athlon tbirds and newer along wth p3's and newer require a certain amount of force pushing down on the cpu itself....

does the old heatsink have a set pressure its pushing down wtih (i would assume so....but im not 100% sure)
if it does require it for optimal heat transfer, i dont think arctic silver thermal epoxy would work....it works on gpu's/chipsets because they dont require alot of force (if any) pushing down on it

I was planning on clamping it after applying a thin layer of AS TA. The clamp will put more force on it than the retail HS does. After the AS dries it should have a better contact than stock (after all, it has the crappy thermal goop that came from the factory).

I might be able to mount on the chip without using AS TA, but it would probably require some Dremeling. That's fine with me because I just got this thing to play with it, I'll probably find a P3 in the trash later on anyway. 🙂
