Will it ever happen ? Castlevania

I am still waiting and waiting on a announcement that a new Castlevania will be released sometime. When I heard about the Castlevania for the Wii....I thought HELL YEA.

But then I realized it was a fighter type game 😕 While it looks to be decent, it isn't what I was expecting.

I want a true Castlevania game, that would be similar to Devil May Cry 4 for the PS3 and 360. It has been a good while since we had one and I for one thinks its about time. I would love to see Simon Belmont on current gen consoles. That would make with the whole castle setting extremely gorgeous.

Is Konami even still around ?

So please vote, who would purchase a new Castlevania game ? I threw in my vote for the PS3 just because I like the controller better. Maybe I am just used to it.

EDIT: I even thought about emailing them just to see what they would say.

I'd go crazy for a traditional 2D style Castlevania game in the vain of the classic Turboduo Dracula X or the NES Castlevania 3 but that ain't happening. I enjoy all the "Metroidvania" style games since Symphony of the Night including the DS games which are fine but I'm getting tired of the sameness of them all. Even the new one coming out next month looks kinda tired looking. That Wii Castlevania fighter looks absolutely horrid and I'm sure will be forgotton anyways.

Where is Konami??? The last great game they've made in my eyes was Contra 4 on the DS which is the best proper sequel to the series since the SNES Contra 3 and it was made by an american team..lol. There is the new Silent Hill game coming out but again..that also isn't made by Konami but instead by The Collective.

There have been many rumors about a new 3D Castlevania game but I'll believe it when I see it and the last 3D CV game was crap (on the PS2/Xbox).

There is a new Castlevania coming out...for the DS. I know it's not what you have in mind, but 2D Castlevania has been alive and well on the DS.

I would definitely be interested in one on the 360 depending on how it turned out. But really I think it would be cool to see more 2D Castlevania, in the same vain as Bionic Commando Rearmed, on the PSN Store, XBLM, and/or WiiWare.

I would LOVE to see a 2D Castlevania done with hi-res artwork on the PS3 and/or 360. But I doubt we'll ever see it. I'm sure they would decide that the work involved with creating all the hi-res artwork for the game would be too much.

I'll definitely be buying the new DS game though. I've been pleased with all the DS releases so far.

I would love to see a Castlevania installment with God of War-esque combat setup and more enemies to show it off. Castlevania 64 was one of my favorite in the series but I hated the running around jumping while whipping things.

I like the 2d versions the best and word is that the new one coming out for the DS is as good if not better than SOTN.

My vote goes for a new traditional style Castlevania game in XBL Arcade. I don't expect it to happen but that is what I would like to play.

SOTN is probably my favorite game of all time.

The only 3D Castlevania I've played was Lament of Innocence on PS2 and I liked it. The gameplay was there, the style was there. It was a good enough game, but I felt that it might've been a bit limited by the hardware. It was too short and the environments were all too small and some of them were repetitive. The combo system was repetitive too, iirc. I would definitely buy more of the same, but bigger and more beautiful, for PS3.

If it were a 360 exclusive, I would seriously consider buying a 360 JUST for a castlevania title. I might not be able to afford it, but I would make sacrifices.

I voted yes and for 360, but I want 2D, not something like DMC, I'm talking 2D with completely updated and HD sprites/textures like they did when they re-did SOTN except a brand new game with tons of depth. Yes I love SOTN probably in my top 5 of all time.

Er, isn't that the past 20 years of Castlevania in a nutshell?

I played the 1st one that came out on the original game boy. It was harder than a mofo. The rest didn't really catch my interest.

I've still got that one... it was, indeed, sadistically difficult.

I do like the whole 2D idea of a new Castlevania, but for me....I would rather have one use the full power of the current consoles and be similar to Castlevania 64 for the N64.

That is what I was referring to about the whole Devil May Cry 4 type. But yea, I am not holding my breath....but one can still hope.

I have absolutely no plans of purchasing the Castlevania fighter for the Wii. Who the hell came up with that anyway ?

see, that's just it. To me, a true Castlevania game is anything but DMC, or any other generic 3D adventure game.

It was more popular than ever when it was in its 2D phase, and really was no surprise that the 3D clone versions were extremely unpopular.

Seriously, why would you want it to be just like Devil May Cry and all those other identical games (different character models, sure), when you could just play Devil May Cry?

I think a new, successful Castlevania should be more along the lines of God of War. More platforming and puzzles. A pseudo-3D game with traditional 2D game mechanics. I say this because, unfortunately, it seems designers these days would rather off themselves than code a large budget 2D game.

lulz..I should have read further into the thread. seems to be a general consensus among those who likely grew up with these games.

I remember playing Simon's Quest non-stop when it came out....hehe.

Yeah, but I think I still give the edge to the GB version. If you haven't played it, it's almost worth playing it just to see how hard it is.
