Will it be possible to fit a ~9-inch blower-style GPU in a Dell Inspiron 660?

I'm looking to get an RX 480 or RX 470 at launch. Apparently, the RX 480 will come in at just over 9-inch, while the RX 470 will come in at around 8.5-inch for the reference blower-style models.


I am not worried about the cables (they can be pushed over the graphics card, or along the edge of the HDD cage)...but I am more worried about the components on the motherboard itself. In particular, the white color square-ish "thing" below the RAM slots.


Will it be bad to have a GPU going "over" these components?

Not exactly sure which component you're referring to...the RAM clips? They shouldn't be in the way so long as they're closed. That's covered by the ATX spec.

If you mean the larger white rectangle, that's the Platform Controller Hub (PCH) or southbridge. And no, there's nothing wrong with a GPU installed on top of it.

Length clearance tends to be the biggest concern with GPUs in uATX cases. It depends on card design, but I wouldn't get anything longer than 9.6" for that case otherwise the drive cage will be in the way.

Were you able to fit a rx470 or 480 into your 660? I am looking to do the same thing and was wondering

In case anyone stumbles on this and is wondering if they can fit one of the new rx series cards in their Inspiron 660 the answer is yes, I did it with an rx 480 8 gb and upgraded to a 650w psu. The cpu is bottlnecking performance but this is a good short term solution until I build my new pc in a few months then I can pull the 480 buy a second one and crossfire them on the new build
