The UN finally has their smoking gun and Iraq is preventing the interviews anywhere but in Iraq. Not only that but the Iraq scientists are unable to give interviews unless Iraqi advisors are present. This is the stumbling block that the U.S. has been looking forward to finding and the UN is putting pressure on Iraq to hold interviews outside of Iraq.

Will the Iraqi scientists being blocked from interviews by the catalyst?

Here's a quote from the BBC this morning;

  • We know from multiple sources that Saddam has ordered any scientist who cooperates during interviews will be killed along with his family

When I heard this quote on news radio yesterday, it reaffirmed my suspicion that the Tyrrany of Saddam and his regime is no farce:

"IRAQI LEADERS have stated that the scientists do not wish to be questioned without an IRAQI OFFICIAL present"

Let's examine this statement...........

- The scientists didn't give this answer directly - it was a statement given FOR them by IRAQI OFFICIALS
- How many criminal informants would "spill the beans" if an "organizied crime official" was present during questioning?

As far as I'm concerned if Saddamn is truly threatening punishment of death to scientists including death of their families if they talk why do you think he's doing this? Because they're doing things they shouldn't be. IF these reports are indeed correct and it's a well known fact among scientists in my opinion that is a smoking gun. There is no defense for Saddamn at that point as he'd clearly be breaching the intentions of the last UN resolution.

And I've said it before: If everyone agrees to a resolution - including Iraq - and there is no punishment for breaching it the resolution, and therefore the UN, loses its legitimacy. The UN has a responsibility to uphold its own resolutions or those who breach them face the penalty, which in this case must be military force, as all other means have been exhausted in the last decade.
I don't know, but the interviews with the Iraqi scientists are unimportant to the grand scheme of things. The UN has better issues to worry about.
Who the hell clicked yes on that one?! The scientists are THE people developing weapons.
