Will internal dvd drive be compatible with external enclosure?

Work, yes. Work well? Yes if it's USB 2.0 or firewire and your motherboard and OS both support USB 2 or firewire properly. Otherwise I believe the speed will be 1x - 2x for DVD burning.

Yes - if it'll even support DVD 1x at all. USB 1.1 is rated 12Mbps, which is 1.5MB/sec. If I recall correctly, DVD 1x writes at a little over 1.5MB/sec. So if you don't have USB 2.0, it might not even write a full DVD.
Writing CD's though at slow speeds should work on USB 1.1.
If you need USB 2.0 though, add-in PCI cards are available for only like $15.

I just checked both of the systems in your Rigs link. Looks like both of them do support USB 2.0. It might only be a certain number of ports though - check the manual for the ECS board and see if it specifies if only some or all are 2.0.

I hate to seem redundant. So if it does support USB2 then there will be no speed reduction? I'm sorry I'm a little confused at the moment.
