Will Intel Kill x86-64 By Supporting It?

I say it's rubbish, HP, IBM, and others are savy enough to see the real benefits and use them. If Intel doesn't make it work and work effectively and efficiently it'll be their a$$ not AMD's IMHO.

is the 64-bitness really good for anything other than ETM support?

early pr0n benchmarks seem to suggest the 64bit castrated processort are just as good as full a64's at the same clock, no?

If you mean the early Sempron vs. A64 benches, both CPUs tested roughly similar in a 32-bit OS. Once XP 64-bit is released, I'm sure th A64 will distance itself by 10+%.

Plus the Sempron's will be many model ratings behind the A64's and won't have the extra gpr's (general purpose registers in 64bit mode and 64bid code) so I would bet performance will be behind by more than 10%. Probably 20% or more. Just an opinion. Overclockers, though may have a field day

Umm, ya. Intel will make a sucky x86-64 cpu that will make Itanium look good causing customers to buy Itaniums instead thus killing off x86-64. Good plan, unless customers decide to look at AMD's implementation and see that it's clearly superior to what their Intel saleperson is trying to hock. Good luck on that plan.
