Will IBM honor this as a warranty issue?

I carry my laptop around me with a sleeve that is fitted for my backpack.
Last week I started noticing that in the middle of the screen, both slightly to the left and also slightly farther to the right, there are entire spaces where the screen is off-brightness. It is most noticable on the Forums, or in Word, or anything that has a predominately white background.

It's not in any regular shape, but just a blob. There are 3 of them, and they significantly discolor white backgrounds. It is noticably brighter on these 'blobs.'

There is no sign of any abnormal usage of my laptop. It is in pristine condition. I have no clue how this happened since it is stored IN A SLEEVE in my backpack.

Is this covered by warranty?

UPDATE:

Called the IBM warranty service department today. They said I didn't have a warranty, that it expired 7/03. (Nevermind the fact that it is a T40 and they didn't even make Centrinos until last March). Go figure. The machine was a refurb from IBM Global Financing that I purchased on 8/28/03 or so. Obviously something didn't get written down right. Anyways he transferred me to the Entitelement department, who told me I had to call IBM Global Financing and have them update the warranty records. Guy from IBM Global Financing was nice and explained to me that this sometimes happens....if I call back tomorrow, they should be able to view the proper warranty information.

So I'll call back tomorrow. It's not an urgent problem but one i would like to have fixed. It doesn't complete make the laptop unusable as would be the case if the HD died or something.

T2X? Yes they will, i had my T20 sent it and they replaced the entire screen. You pay more but you get MUCH better service than dell etc.

Just call them up and tell them about it. Apprently its from something behind the screen that supports it but places extra stress/pressure on certain parts of the screen. They'll send you a prepaid airborne express mailer and you send it to them. Turn around time was a week or two? Don't remember

Yeah just RMA it. As for dell, I've never had a problem with their tech support. Granted it's a pain to get a problem solved but they've never tried to shaft me.

I work with dell all the time, and they have way better support than any ibm tech. I can put the ticket in online and have them at my site within the next 2 days. as for ibm, their service is very fast, but they cross reference every number on the machine before they will even think about putting the new part in.

good luck

Dell Business support is good, but consumer support stinks. I've always recomend IBMs and have used their support for my personal laptop, and it felt a lot better than calling any customer support before and since.
