I don't use the stock HSF on my X2 3800+. will I void the warranty if I sell it? For that matter, will anybody want to BUY it LOL?

If you were to RMA your chip if something went wrong, you would need the number on the HSF to get an RMA number.

EDIT: Forgot to mention you need to send the stock HSF with the chip too

Really? They make you send the heatsink as well? I didnt know that. Guess my 3 year warranty chip has no warranty then lol.

ok this info is comin straight from the guy who just sent his 2400+ athlon in for RMA. if you get the RMA and send it in without the HSF AMD will do what is called a "courtesy return" where they will send you a new processor simply because yours is already there even though u didnt send in the HSF. This new processor, however, will not have a warranty on it, so be careful 🙂 they sent me a brand new athlon xp 2600+ barton in exhange for my athlon xp 2400+ thourobred B so i wasnt complainin about no warrantly lol.
the guy i was talkin about was me by the way lol

Well the best time to send ity this way would be just before the warranty expires, then either way it wont matter 😛

When ever I have returned an Intel processor (2 times) I have put the original HS in the box with the processor, Slot2 because it was part of the package and the Celeron I returned because I never used their HS. I did get both processors back with warranty intact, I believe it is for one year or remainder of the original warranty period whatever is longer I believe. BTW the first one had never failed(Broken PSU in the end) but they lost it after it arrived at their facility, so they sent me an updated version.

BTW always ship these RMAs with a tracking code, because then if THEY loose it, you have evidence of its arrival.

Delivery Confirmation should be fine, and its a lot cheaper 😛
