you could probably OC the 2000+ better due to less heat. There should be a decent speed difference though depending on what applications you are using.

Tom's Hardware Guide CPU Charts

If your motherboard support AXP2000+, it'll also support 333mhz AXP 3000+. If it only supports 133mhz (266mhz effective), you can try to find XP2600+ with 266FSB.

however, given the price of A64 2800+ and s754 mobo you would probably be better off getting that as a cheap combo. In fact, given the low prices today, get Venice 3000+ and socket 939 motherboard and overclock that to 2.6ghz. Now that's value.

If you are getting the cpu for free, then go ahead and upgrade. If you have to pay for the XP, then don't waste your money and save it for a MB/CPU upgrade to a socket 754 Sempron/MB combo.

Good luck!

It is likely that it only supports Thunderbird and Palomino CPUs, in which case most 2000+ CPUs will NOT work. I know I had a mobo that didn't specify that, but wouldn't work with a Tbred B 1800+ I tried in it, when said CPU worked fine in all other mobos I tried it in.

Anyways: yeah, you will notice a nice boost. Nothing spectacular, but noticeable nonetheless.

you have to check if your mboard supports the specific revision of the 2000+. There're different version/cores and some motherboards only support some and not other.

The 2000+ is Palomino. (I don't expect a good OC out of this)
My mobo will support anything as long as it's 266FSB...
Right now I do not know if the cpu will be free or I have to pay for it.
The T-bird 1.333GHz that I have is already OC from 1200(200FSB).

This is just my secondary machine, but nonetheless it's getting slow for school needs. I was also considering passing down some of the stuff to my parents as they're still using P2-3.

I'm just trying to hold myself off till AMD M2 socket is out, which is like next year...lol...

CPU is on Volcano 6CU...lapped...with ceramique...
I'm sure the 2000+ would be cooler than the Tbird right?
those 1.3-1.4GHz ones were like the hottest of the bunch...

if the 2000+ is a tbred-b, you should be good for at least 2Ghz (i'm at 2.1 atm, in which case a huge difference ;)

EDIT: oop it's a palomino, so it won't oc for sh1t :(

still notice a good boost tho IMO.
