will I see a difference in hd performace if I use a ata 100 instead of ata 33 cable?

ATA 66 and 100 drives need the ATA 100/66 cables. Since your hard drive is 7200 rpm I believe it's atleast an ATA 66 drive. So if you use a ATA 33 cable it will operate at ATA 33 (UDMA 33) and yes it will have lower performance. However most of the CD/DVD roms and CDRWs are ATA 33 though ATA 66 roms have just started to arrive. I believe you have ATA 33 Drvie as your CD/DVD rom or CDRW. so it's performance will not be affected if you use a ATA 33 cable.

That board comes with an 80 wire/40 pin cable, so you should use it.

Other question is what WD 7200 RPM drive? I have an old 15 gig WD 7200 RPM ATA66 drive in one of the kids PC's. Its good for ~ 25 MB/sec STR. ATA33/66/100 makes no difference on that one. My 1200JB is good for ~ 50 Mb/sec. With that drive, it does matter.
