Will I notice this motherboard upgrade?

Hi all,
I recently got hooked up with a free MSI kt400 board and was thinking of swapping out my file servers mobo. It's currently running a board with an AMD 761/VIA 686b NB/SB. I ask because I will still only be running PC2100 on it with an AthlonXP 1800+. I haven't seen any head to head benchies of those 2 platforms as they are a bit far apart in age. This is a file server that I keep up for downloading stuff etc, so it does take a fairly decent load to the point that any extra performance would be appreciated. What kind of performance boost if any, would I be looking at?

If it's on a 100-megabit network connection, the difference will probably not be much, if any. Remember that no matter how fast your file server is, it can only get stuff to you as fast as your network connection allows, which for a 100MBit connection is around 10 megabytes per second, probably less. Try funneling the output from a garden hose through a drinking straw, and that's your server trying to feed data from its hard drive through a 100MBit network cable :) Ok, slight exaggeration, but you see the point: the mobo ain't the bottleneck.

Let's see, you're KT400 will be using 2100 ram, which means it'll be acting basically as a KT266A based motherboard. Raw bandwidth may be 30% above the AMD760's, and general speeds will be 5 to 20%, which is actually quite a lot. Benches

That was what I was hoping to hear. The box currently bogs down pretty bad with shareaza running roughshod over my cable connection. My CPU is usually fully loaded so I figured any extra horsepower might help. Thanks.:)
