I'm thinking/planning/wishing to upgrade soon from my current setup (check sig). What I'm lookin' into is: MSI K7N2-L (nf2, lan, blah blah blah), xp 2100, and 1gb of geil 3500 dual chan all from newegg. I'd like to at least try o/cing, hoping to hit at least 2g. Should/would/will I notice quite a bit of an increase in performance w/ this setup? Hoping to help FPS some in EQ and Wolfenstein ET mostly the games I'm into l8ly. I figured I'd go w/ the 1gb as its not really any more than the 512 (well just x2).. I think w/ a gig I'd be good for quite some time that way. Just lookin for some thoughts, etc on this purchase..

I think your best bet with your rig, is to get a 9700 pro video card, and OC the 1800 a little. If you can't OC the 1800, then slap at 2400 in there, or a 2500 Barton if your mobo supports it.

Between the cpu range your are talking about 1800 + (1500mhz) 2100 + ( 1700mhz) your not going to see much difference in preformance. Maybe a fewer higher marks in the benchmarks.

If you are looking to get FPS...Dude, get the massive vid card you can get. Like a 9700 pro video card. Or a new Geforce fx ultra card. Thats where you are going to see the preformance increased!

hmmm thanks for the replies all. currently i'm unable to oc the 1800 anymore than a few mhz on the fsb.. i've tried MANY times to unlock it..finally gave up totally on it. thats a reason i want a nf2 board.. also i'll be building a pc outta some of my old parts for my bro..so i really won't be losing to much $ on the whole deal.. i'll have to think more about the vcard, kinda been tryin to wait it out till something that will/can run doom 3 w/ some good quality. i know the 200mhz really won't show much, but i was hoping 500+ would..and the additional mem w/ dual chan setup.

i'll look into the vcard option some, thanks for the tips, etc!
