will i notice a big difference

Really depends on what you're doing. I would say not really. I went from 800 to 1ghz. About three years ago. Not really worth it. Just run Ubuntu like me 🙂
 
Hey, 800 Mhz is 45% faster than 550 Mhz. Depending on what you're doing, you should notice a significant speedup.
 
Your getting about 30% or so increase in Clockspeed per chip. So performance would be about a 20-25%% increase in performance. So yes, it would be a nice upgrade. 🙂

You really wont notice that much of a difference going from the 550's to the 800's. But if you can get the p3 800 chips for little or no cash diffinitly do it. Every hmz counts.
You would notice it more if you were downgrading from the p3 800 to the 550's tho/
