Will I need to upgrade PSU for the 690?

Hi I hope I am not putting my first post in the wrong place! Apologies if so.

Would anyone be able to help me out, I know more power to my system won't hurt but if I can currently get away without upgrading my psu it would be good.

I am buying a GTX690 (purchase I have wanted for awhile) and everywhere I read/every power calculator I use has different opinions on this.

Will I need to upgrade from my Corsair Gaming GS700 to something like a GS800?

Here are the components of my rig currently:
1TB Seagate ST1000DM003 Barracuda
Asus P8Z77-V
Intel i7 3770 - (4 x 3.5 GHZ) - Ivy Bridge
Arctic Cooling Freezer 13
Cooler Master HAF-922 ( case has 3 large fans)
Corsair 16GB PC3-12800 1600 MHz (4x4GB)
Corsair 700W Gaming PSU
single dvd R/RW tray
Other power draws are of course Mouse/keyboard/headset

Any opinions would be awesome and please take into account i will without a doubt buy a higher watt psu soonish anyway but wanted to know if it was absolutely neccessary right now.

Thank you

The GS700 is a relatively low-end 700W power supply, but with two 6+2-pin power connectors and 56A on the 12V rail, it is more than sufficient to run the GTX 690.

Your system will draw about 400W at load, assuming the CPU is stock.

Just a friendly tip - if you are buying the GTX 690 new and paying full retail, you are not getting a good deal. Assuming you are buying used at a discount, it may be a good choice. It is not ideal for resolutions above 1920x1080 due to its relatively low amount of VRAM.

It is stock, I am not a fan of overclocking myself and do not perform it on any equipment I buy.

Thank you very much for your input, as mentioned I will upgrade soon anyway but wanted to use this PSU for now if able.

Appreciate the input very much.

Sorry for late reply, I am buying the GTX 690 new at approx £750, I dislike buying used Computer parts as I never know how they have been treated/cleaned.

Although I agree it would be a better deal to buy one of the £500+ ones off ebay etc. I'd rather pay more for the security that it is new, unused and will come with 'x' warranty.

Thank you though for your input, it is more appreciated than you know.

I would suggest you also consider the GTX 780 Ti. It is less expensive, nearly as fast overall, and much more consistent at high resolutions.

Just get a GTX 780 Ti. If you buying new, try to buy current gen. What Resolution you gaming at? If 1080p just get a GTX 780 and enjoy the savings.

For that price, i would also suggest a 780Ti.

Plus is always easy to deal with one GPU for games and drivers.

The 690 still is a pretty beast GPU. The 780 ti offers equivalent performance without the worry of SLI problems.

However, I'd save the money and get the GTX 780. Offers nearly the same performance and keeps the 3GB of VRAM.

I'm a bit late to this but buying GTX 690 now for £750 is just a bad deal.

A 690 is just 2 2gb 680s on one PCB. A 2gb GTX 770 is a rebranded 680. You can buy a 2GB 770 for £270. So you can get GTX 690 performance for £520 by buying 2 GTX 770s.

That being said if your willing to drop £750 on a GPU I'd just get a 780 ti. As stated the performance is close enough, is around £200-£250 cheaper and no SLI problems. Plus you always SLI your 780 ti later and that setup will beat a 690 anyway.
