I just got the following machine off of Dell Outlet:

Dell Dimension 5150/E510
Pentium 4 650
1GB RAM
128 MB PCI Express Radeon X300SE

I'd like to take out the video card and put in the following one (x800):
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814127176

It's been a while since I installed a new video card (IIRC the last one I installed was one from 3dfx) so I was wondering before I buy it if there's any forseeable problem of if it's basically pull out the old one and connect the new one.

Thanks for any help.

Should be dirt simple. I put a 6800GS into mine last night.

The side panel is held on by a latch, not even thumbscrews to mess with. Should just have to pull the card and put in the new one.

Edit: I should mention there's likely to be a plastic retaining clip at the back end of the PCI-E slot. Usually they're pretty simple, but don't forget about it when trying to pull the old card out.

Just check the Dell website which will give you detailed instructions (As if you'll need it ;-) on how to replace a card. Or just open the box .. it's quite simple really.

Just watch out for the PSU not being able to supply it with enough power. If the system becomes unstable after you install it then it will most likely be the PSU.

(I think there's another thread in video about a Dell 5150 having a PSU issue)

I think you shouldn't have any trouble installing that card. Dell's OEM PSU's are famous for being higher quality than what they are rated. I knew this, but I upgraded my PSU just in case... PC Power and Cooling offers high quality Dell replacements (Dell uses some weird power connector that isn't exactly ATX). I got a 425W Dell PSU from them and it ran my X850XT just fine ;)
