Will I harm my credit or anything for closing a savings/checking account?

I opened a savings/checking account with Chase over the summer as I had an out of state internship and needed a nationwide bank. Well now I don't need it and I'm noticing a $12 charge every month for the debit card which I never use. So I just want to close the account and take everything out of it. I don't think it'll do anything to my credit as I have no CC w/ Chase, but I just wanted to make sure.

Credit rating, probably not. "Chex Systems" is the rating of bank accounts.

If you don't have any automatic withdraws from that account, then it's ok to close it.
If you do, then make extra sure that they are stopped or transfered. Documentation is a good thing.

Drafts from a closed account will kill your 'chex systems score'.

They are charging you $12 to use the debit card? You should have went with the Bank of America Student Checking. Completely free for five years. Only catch is you must be a student when you sign up.

But your credit score shouldn't be affected unless you had a credit line attached to it. Either through overdraft protection or a credit card you didn't know you signed up for.

I don't have anything fancy (that I signed up for anyway). It's a basic savings account, and a separate checking account with debit card. Nothing else is connected to it. I just needed some place to deposit my checks before the direct deposit kicked in for my main bank.

I'll run to a Chase and close it then. Thanks for the confirmations
