I haven't done the essays yet but I think they will end up being slightly above average. Teacher reccomendations should be good. Nothing else really of note except that I'm proficient in guitar, which I figure is worthy of mentioning on the application. I'm getting a little worried that I won't get in so I may scramble for some last minute community service/join some clubs. What do you all think...anyone who currently goes there or has gone?

It looks good. To ensure it though, when you do your initial meeting, tell them that "Mr. Franklin" and his pal "Mr. Grant" want to see you in this fine educational establishment. ;)

"Mr. Washington" should suffice. This is, after all, the University of Florida.

you should be fine. A friend of mine got in with a 3.6 GPA as a California resident. A 3.6 at our school is considered low, considering we had about 5 people that had 5.0's and many more above 4.5.

Honestly, if you cant get into UF as a resident with those grades, then they should be a freakin ivy league school

True. Hell, make it 2 "Mr. Washingtons"... With inflation and all, $.50 should be about right.

Good to hear. I actually don't think they have interviews. Just the essays, but I may be wrong.

They require 2 essays these days. Also, I would imagine they raised their requirements from 5 years ago, but we'll just see. I'll find some ways to polish up my transcript before I submit the application anyways. Club ATOT anyone? :)

Grade inflation is such BS. The class that graduated from my high school this year had 25 kids with better than a 4 point, out of I think 400.

If we got A's in AP courses back in 1999, we used to get a 6.0 on a 4.0 gpa scale :)

Dunno if they still do that....

You'll get in no problem. A few of my friends go to UF and they all got in with 3.5's and only around 1100 on their SAT's.

Yea, A's in AP classes are a 6.0, B's are a 4.5. I don't know about the rest. UF is the only college that I'm applying to that makes you write 2 essays. The rest are all 1, even UMICH, and that is like one of the top colleges in the nation.

Go to my college. I took pre-calculus and had a 29 on the ACT and my advisor had a fit.

Good old rural community colleges.

do you mean U of Michigan? DO NOT DO IT. with your stats, apply to ALL ivy, if you prefer to come to north east. private will give you more in financial aids. if you are going to an out of state uni, you won't get as much financial aids from them, yet, they look you as international student. for umich, prepare to pay them $20k in cash for a year. your best bet is going to a state uni or private for more money.

All Ivy? I don't think I can get into ANY Ivy Leagues. The reason i'm applying to UMICH is because my parents own a house in southwest michigan and they will probably be living there within a few years. I do want to be somewhat close to them. I don't think there is anyway I could be considered a resident, but I am investigating. Regardless, my stats are a little low for what they are looking for and with my limited extracurriculars, it is unlikely I get in anyhow. So far I'm applying to UM, UF, UMICH, and FSU. FSU just to make sure I get in somewhere. I guess I should apply to some harder universities and maybe if I apply to enough I'll get in one :)
