Hi
I am thinking of buying a 6600GT graphics card and 512mb ram to upgrade my ageing system. I have an amd xp 2100+palamino, 512mb 2100 ram and 133fsb motherboard. All I am really interested in is getting acceptably smooth framerates in games like half-life2, doom 3, far-cary etc. As far as I understood it as long as you can hit around 25-30fps you can't notice any difference anyway. Do you think it would be upto the job as I really do not want to spend out any more money. Also I am in the UK so our parts are a bit more expensive.
Thanks for any help.

yah, another 512 stick should help as well as that 6600GT. That system is pretty low end but with more ram and a better gpu you should be able to juice out a litte more performance. Good luck.

it should be OK.. just for the record though! 25-30 fps is bad IMO in first person shooters, you want at least 50 to be able to not be annoyed by it really.. However.. that system would probably be OK. And yer the parts in UK are ridiculous! It really is like swap the $ for a £ over here.. £450 for a PCIE 6800U *rollseyes*
