Will I gain muscle mass and weight from pushups?

I've been doing 100 pushups (sets of 20 with my legs on a 15 inch high raised platform) every other day for nearly 4 months now. While I've been able to do a max of about 30 pushups in a row as opposed to 15-18 when I started, I don't notice any gain in muscle mass or weight.
Am I just burning fat and keeping myself as a scrawny defined dweeb by doing this exercise?

Will you gain muscle, alittle. Put on weight, no. A few of my friends did push ups and sit ups everyday for years in their early teens and turned out really defined and fit during high school. Diet plays a large role in weight gain, if you aren't eating enough/correctly you won't see a increase in muscle mass, just in definition.

generally in weight training, light weight and many reps gives a defined body look or a "cut" look.

To gain muscle and body mass, you need to do heavy weights and with fewer reps.

You should probably balance both anyways. I've seen some people who just have a huge blob of an arm. It's nasty ****** to see.

you are doing too many, you will gain stamina but not mass.

There are ways to make it work, but I suggest going to a local bookstore for any muscle books, they will be very helpful.

for me the hardest thing is the diet part. i'm not fat, rather skinny, but its hard to watch what you eat all the time. almost impossible.

You have to add weight on your back (use a backpack) if you want to see any form of muscle gain.

In addition be sure to use variation in your push ups....hands close together, shoulder length and far apart...use an exercise ball too.
If you can get to the point where you can knock out several reps of pushups while almost vertical, you should see max results then.

You won't gain muscle aside from the initial gains you will get when you first started. That said, you will gain tremendous endurance strength which is a good thing. You could try doing one armed pushups and polymetric once you can do about 50 pushups in a row which will increase your maximal strength.
