..i used a stock heatsink/fan (came with a non-thoroughbred xp cpu) without a copper base?

i read that you have to use a hsf with a copper base with thoroughbreds but is it really that important? could i just use my crappy stock hsf until i get my volcano 9?

thanks

I've got my tbred B dut3c running at 183 x11, on a 5$ gc 68 cooler. That is pretty extreme, as far as cheap goes, but a copper base is not necessary, IMO.

system 30C proc 38C at idle
System up to 32C Proc up to 46.5C after hours of prime. sometimes it cools down from there, those are max numbers.

if AMD says the retail fan is ok, then it's ok.

they dont say it's ok for overclocking tho.

Keep in mind, The Retail AMD heatsink he is supplied with was not made for Thoroughbred processors...

I honestly wouldn't recommend it, find a cheap copper one online.

i am very impressed with the GC69 from SVC. very solid heavy construction and with a nice 80mm fan and good 3-prong clip. for $8 + ship, you can't go wrong.

I have a couple of those, they work well, but I was disappointed in the finish. My gc68 is a cast mirror surface, very smooth, but the 69's are a rougher machined finish. I sent them an email about it, they say the next batch in a few months will be the smooth ones.
With AS3 on them, they do a fine job for 8$, though.
