you dont neccessarily need SLI no

SLI is for those that want the absolute best NOW and not later. its for people who want next gen performance today so to speak (not that you can predict what the next gen will bring)

i reckon NV's next gen high end card will be faster than 2 7800's in SLI, but it will probably just as if not more expensive. SLI is really only worth it if your gonna use 2 of the top tier cards. (ie 2x6800GS will probably be beaten by 1 7800GTX.....and it would cost you about the same, probably more, 2x7800GTX on the other hand cant really be beaten by anything)

i wouldnt hold your hopes up for a 7800GS since Nvidia has NO PLAN on releasing this card. the few 7800GS's that do exist were engineering samples.

but down the road id imagine buying a second 6800GS will be cheaper than buying the equivalent speed single card. i mean its up to you, for me SLI is for the I WANT IT NOW AND I WANT IT FAST crew, id usually sitck with a single card, that way i could get a card thats just as fast as the SLI set up i would of had, plus it will have loads of cool new features.

That is one of the biggest point holding me to get SLI setup.

Because now i am difficult on getting a SLI or non SLI motherboard.
I think i can afford the price range of 6800GS. Those 7800GTX are my dream card, which i couldn't ever have one.(that's y it is a dream card)

hmmm i really dont know, it were me id buy a SLI board anyway, even if i dont do SLI right away for me it would nice to have the possibility that i can boost performance later on for cheaper than buying a whole new card.

6800GS is a good card all on its own, it should last 9months. but i reckon 10x7 in the newer games will be called for. i know i had to start doing that on my 6800GT. obviously 2x6800GS would be pretty good, but then you may as well of bought a GTX for the same money.

it depends how you like your games, since my 6800GT i have come accustomed to hi res, AA and AF....so i must have those which is why i have 7800GT's in SLI.

as always id say get the best you can afford at the time, and dont bother waiting for newer stuff down the road, because in this game you'll end up waiting forever. (it only makes sense to wait if the new thing you want is like 1 month away)
