These are the important things:
How will you work together as a team?
How will you respond to crises?
What are your individual and joint values and priorities?
A lot of us have this warm and fuzzy vision of a mate that is already perfect for us, out there somewhere waiting (or not, as the case may be).
Really what we need to do is understand what it means to be a good mate and then work on those qualities. That way, when you do meet someone who is potentially 'right', you don't blow it by having unrealistic expectations.
