I ordered a CPU and got a 400 FSB not knowing that my mobo only supports up to 333. Should I cancel the order immediately or will the CPU adapt? THank you.
The CPU can adapt, but it will not run at it's rated speed and the BIOS may not detect it correctly or automatically. The final CPU speed is a multiple of the FSB speed, and you generally can't set the multiplier higher than the manufacturer rating.
I'd cancel the order. The CPU will run at 333, but why pay a premium for performance you are not going to use? A 3200+ running at a 333FSB is a 2500+ at more than twice the price.
