Seriously man, just get a 6V charger at goodwill, ANY 6V charger. Why kill the vacuum for no good reason if you can get it to work again for next to no money?

In that case I retract my previous statement, and go back to my original suggestion with the high-tension power lines and jumper cables.🙂
 
You always have to match voltage. Amperage can be higher on the new charger since the device will only draw as much as it needs to.
