Will I benefit from a new sound card? If so, which one?

Heres the system that I have:

Windows XP SP2
Intel E2180 Core 2 Duo Allendale
Gigabyte P35-DS3L
ATI X850XT
G. Skill 2gbx1 DDR2 PC6400
Turtle Beach Santa Cruz sound card
Logitech Z-5300e 5.1 speakers

Will I benefit from a better sound card such as an audigy with the z-5300e speakers? If so, which one should I get? I mostly game, but also listen to music on limewire
 
I suggest you give the onboard sound a try with your speaker and see if you like it better than the Santa Cruz. You'll be surprised.

The onboard sound of my motherboard (Gigabyte P35-DS3R) is definitely much better than the Santa Cruz and rivals with the $100 M-Audio sound card that I have on my other computer. If you found your onboard sound is not good enough, then think about buying another sound card.

Ditto on the X-Fi, as long as it's not the Xtreme-Audio (i.e. the software X-Fi). You'll want the Xtreme-Gamer.

Actually it has way better DAC than any onboard card. That is advantage of any dedicated card, all electronics are at least decent, when onboard card might have good new hdaudio chipset, but everything else is cheapest and abysmal.

Actually it has way better DAC than any onboard card. That is advantage of any dedicated card, all electronics are at least decent, when onboard card might have good new hdaudio chipset, but everything else is cheapest and abysmal.

And as far as the different versions of X-Fi go... like I said get the cheapest one. You don't get much benefit from spending more, in my experience. They just want to milk you once you're sold on the product. I went with the cheapest version (xtreme music?) and I'm QUITE happy 🙂
