will I be safe with a corsair CX430 430w PSU to power my system?

I am looking at running a Radeon HD 5850 (max draw of 150w according to HWcompare), a Core2Duo Q6600 CPU, and 2 SATA drives.

Will a Corsair CX430 430w be sufficient?

Also what about a Thermaltake TR2 600w PSU... this one isn't 80+ rated where as the Corsair unit is... should I expect that it will make more power than the corsair?

TR2 600W is obviously more powerful but CX430 is better quality and less expensive. Technically the CX430 should handle your system but 5850 requires two PCIe power connectors. I would look for a 500W unit like CX500.

According to psuCalc, you'll be just fine so long as you don't OC. I entered everything you've mentioned, plus: 4 ram sticks, 2 optical drives and 6 case fans, which totaled 425w.

PSU calculators estimate the required PSU wattage, not the actual power consumption. They typically leave plenty of margin between that and the recommended wattage. He'd be fine with a 600W unit even with heavy OC, provided it is a good unit. The TR2 is average.

PCI-E adapter to stick into one of the CX430's molex connectors can be had for about $4 after shipping.

The CX430 will be plenty, it can provide 32A in the 12V rail.
Do you happen to know how many amps in the 12V rail the TR2 can? I'd be shocked if it is more than 40, Tt TR2 PSUs are mediocre at best.
