Will I be arrested if I don't get my driver's license renewed?

Well, not arrested but... I have an out of state license and I'm supposed to get an alabama one within 30 days of getting permanent residency. It looks like that won't be happening until probably 35 days after. Is this even a big deal at all?

You definitely don't want to be pulled over while driving on an expired license. Possible big fines will result.

I am still using my NZ DL, mainly because I am still in AOS status while awaiting my PR interview.
I don't drive often so its no big deal, but I wouldn't risk it if you have to drive.
Any convictions(including driving convictions) can go against you when applying for PResident Status and its not worth it.

How would we know? We don't live in Nova Scotia.
He lives in USA now.

I know I was told by a nice officer of the law that even though he was raping me with a stupid speeding ticket he was being nice by not writing me up for having a Michigan Drivers License when I had been living in Missouri for about a year :-Q He said you must do it within 30 days or you could get ticketed, which means if you do anything to tick them off, they will write it up, but otherwise they will just give you a hard time. Course you are talking about a out of country license, not just out of state, so your mileage could differ.

Well the thing is I do have a Canada driving license not set to expire until next year. I have no intentions of breaking any laws (other than this one) here at all because I think they'd just as soon ship me north than worry about it (justice system).

I think I will play on the "how would they know when you moved here" thing :) At most I'll be a few days past and I do have a legal Canadian license which is valid as a driver's license in the US.

Skoorb,
If the laws allow you to get Alabama plates and Drivers license, I'd get them. You don't know how many times I've been pulled over just because I have a South Dakota plated car and South Dakota drivers license here in Minnesota and have to explain to them that I don't have to change it because I'm in the military and my legal residency under federal law is South Dakota.

Little more detail: I don't have a car yet. I look to be getting one next week or week after, then once I have one driving to the stupid office during their silly hours. So currently I'm not driving; when I get the car it will have bama plates.

not a big deal if you don't get stopped...
even if you DO get stopped.... there's like, a HUGE, MASSIVE chance that they'll just say, hey! get that taken care of....

but then again, if you cock off to the cops, you'll goto jail man, those 'bama prision's don't sound to fun either

I hope you guys aren't referring to the back door pirates. Already one guy said "Watch your corn hole, buddy" when I said I was moving here and now this?

God, I'm NEVER going to jail here.

This a misdemeaner not a civil infraction like a speeding ticket. It would go on your arrest record, although you would most likely be given an appearence ticket. I had one guy in my motorcycle endorsment class who was in the academy to be a cop, he got a ticket for no motorcycle endorsement on his license. He was sweating bullets because this could cause him to get booted.
