I am about to put this system together:

Dual 1.2 GHZ AMD Palaminos on a Tyan Thunder motherboard
1024 MB PC2100 DDR RAM
165 GB Hard Drive space
16X10X40 SCSI CDR/CDRW
16X DVD
GeForce3
SoundBlaster Live
Win2K/Win 98
------------------------------

Will I be able to run my games in 1600x1200 resolution smooth?

what the hell kind of question is that??

i have a GF2 Pro and a 1Gig@1.333 and i can run q3a at 2048 and its playable... (i.e. not jerky) granted i usually play at 1248 but still jesus.. you are an idiot if you bought that machine to play games on.

Depends on the game and what you define "smooth". I'd like to see anyone try and run around in a city in Anarchy Online with full details maxed and 1600x1200@32bbp.

So the question boils down to - Is the GeForce 3 better than the Voodoo 5 at 3D gaming? And the answer to that question is YES. In fact, the GeForce 3 IS THE BEST video chipset for 3D gaming bar none.

Ooooh, look at me, I'm Braggy Bragington...

hehe...but seriously are you being that niave towards this computer...you're talking raw power here.

If you are going to all that trouble and expense, wait for a higher speed Palomino and a better video card.

The fact is most games are not able to make use of two processors, so your gaming performance benefit from the two 1.2 Athlons will be negligible. You would probably be better off getting a 1.4 Athlon are using that if you were primarily concerned with gaming. The dual processor setup would be a waste.
