I'm just wondering if I'm already bottlenecked by my USB Network adapter, it IS G and isnt very far from my wireless router but I have no way to directly plug it in without making my apartment ugly.

I'm currently signed up for 12mbps plan with cox (and its fast) but will I get the same speeds if I get 7mbps service?

wireless g is up to 54mbps (assuming it isn't super g) and even with poor connection you should get 20mpbs easily, well over a 12mbps provided by your ISP

so then its up toy ou whether or not you want the 12 vs 7

If you're using it through a USB 1.1 port, it's theoretical maximum speed is 12mpbs. If you're connecting through USB 2.0, you won't be bottlenecked as 2.0 theoretical maximum is 480mbps.

Well, Even though rated for 54mbps, wireless never gets close to the theoretical limit.

My stepson uses a dlink usb wireless adapter, and he never gets any more than 10-20Mb Per second throughput when transferring over my lan, and is lucky to hit 600-700 KBps when downloading from online.

I got upgraded from a 10Mb to 15Mb connection and cannot tell the difference on his computer. On my computer with the Ethernet connection, you get it all.
