Will I be able to live with a fx5200?

I'm selling my 9700 pro in hope that it prevents me from gaming as much (and hopefully bumps my gpa). I have a 5200 lying around, and I was wondering if I would be able to live with it if I did decide to start playing counter-strike again. It should be atleast adequate for a little while right?

as long as it is a 128bit 5200 you will be fine. a freind of mine got a 64bit version with his dell and that card blows, even for just cs.

It is the 128-bit version luckily.

Trust me I WISH I could quit cs. 🙁

I think switching will be good for me also because there should be a lot more new options for video cards by summer. Hopefully the new ATI and NV cards turn out anywhere near the hype!

Should be fine for cs. If you really want to get your gpa up though, you should quit playing altogether. I know..gaming has had quite a toll on my gpa too 🙁

If you can't manage pleasure and work now what makes you think you'll be able to when you have a hot gf or a wife or a family?

Learn to balance and manage things better and you'll have plenty of time to play CS and what not. Having a low GPA due to videogaming taking up a lot of your time reflects your inability to prioritize your tasks. Also if you are asking whether or not 5200 will play CS, then how exactly is that going to cut down on your videogaming time if it's the game you play the most (by the sound of it) anyways? If the lower grade card still plays the games you play, you'll play just as much as before while experiencing worse image quality on top of that and inability to play future games like HL2 and Doom 3 if you ever have the desire to. Finally, what was the point in getting that Athlon 64 CPU then if you are not going to use it effectively? If you do not have time to play videogames, I do not see you doing any other cpu intensive tasks which often take a lot more time than videogaming. I do not want to critisize you, I just don't quite undertand your intentions, because I doubt they will help to resolve your problem.

Ouch! I didn't post this to get lectured. I was asking a simple question of whether or not a 5200 would handle cs.

The real reason I'm going to use the 5200 for a while is to hold me over until the new line of cards come out. That way i can either get a sweet deal on a 9800 pro or fork over a little more cash for the new stuff. I figured that if I sell my 9700 Pro when it's worth more....I win out in the long run (assuming I can stand the 5200)

And in fact I already have a hot girlfriend 😀 ..and I also happen to have a 3.6 gpa so I wouldn't really consider that low. I mean there is always room for improvement, but I was mostly joking about the gpa thing because I know how addictive some of these games can be.

My my some people are so quick to give advice.

lol he thinks he'll game less with a different vid card.

Did you not read the rest of the thread? I said it was a joke. I'm going to sell my 9700 while it's actually worth something and wait for the new line of cards.

Well thank you to the people that actually answered my question.

I'm not sure that selling your R9700 is such a good idea. It's still an amazing card, and will run HL2 and Doom3 just fine when they are released. Say you sell the 9700 for $150, then you buy a 5200 for $80, you're only getting $70 profit to put towards a new card when it is released. Add to this all the hassle of swapping cards and the fact that you'll be using a crappy videocard for a few months and it doesn't sound worth it to me. Just hold on to your 9700 until you want to UPGRADE. It will still be worth good money in a few months.

Just my 2 cents. 😉

EDIT: Since you already have the 5200, I guess you might as well sell the 9700 if you feel so inspired. 🙂
