Will Hyundai become the next Honda?

I just saw on a commercial that you can get a new Accent for $9,200. I mean I would never own an Accent for myself, but a brand new car for $10k, with a 10-year100k warrantee is as about a good a deal as you can get out there.

This seems like the path Honda took some many years ago, offering a cheap no frills car to the public..And with the economy with it is now I'd say this is the perfect time for Hyundai to capitalize on people looking for cheap transportation.

imho they are built cheap and one will not last as long or perform as well as a Honda. But with that said I've never owned a Hyundai but have had a few Hondas..

Hyundai Accent starts at 9749 according to the website. I suppose that's after the 1000 dollar rebate. Edmunds had positive things to say about their long term Hyundai Elantra.

from what I understand, Honda didn't have a great reputation when they first started selling cheap cars. Both the Santa Fe and the Elantra have gotten good reviews. It takes time to change a nation's opinion of a car, especially one that had a reputation as bad as Hyundai did when they were first here. I think in about 10 years, Hyundai wont be a punchline anymore, but will be a force in the industry, and could rival Honda's sales numbers.

Uh, my pop's business bought a new Accent GL with A/C and auto for $8K

Here you can get new Elantras with A/C and auto for $10,200

I've been really impressed with the Accent. Little bastard has been great. 60K miles in 2 years and hasn't had one problem. Was given to a lady to use to drive around town and for her personal use. Has 2 little kids. Great little car.

The only Hyundai I would ever consider buying is the Hyundai Elantra GLS, I think it's an incredible value.

Will Hyundai become the next Honda? Who knows, they're certainly on their way, maybe in 7 years but not right now.

I doubt that Hyundai will "rival" Honda. I can see Hyundai rivaling Mazda or Nissan though. Honda and Toyota, however, have both done excellent jobs of adding cache to their names. Hyundai will definitely get bigger though.

Uhm that's not saying a lot.

If I were to buy a new car would I get a Hyundai or Saturn? Probably Hyundai because of the warranty since they're both going to fall apart.

Yea the Hyundai cars are very cheap and cheaply made, i put a box on top of the trunk and it dented it... the box wasn't even that heavy. wonder what would happen in a car accident.

Who are you responding to? 😛

lol.. I suppose its possible. It seems like I heard somewhere that their reliability wasn't as good as they had hoped, though? I dunno, maybe not.

What about Suzuki? They have very cheap cars, and they're touting a 7 year, 100,000 mile warranty. Many of their models are realitivly small, and get good gas milage.

You never know how things will trend.. if gas prices keep going up.

I wouldn't say that they would be competing with Honda per se, however they would be filling a niche for decent, cost effective, good milage cars.

The Sante Fe has seem to been recieved very well, even on a radio car show in my area a Ford dealer spoke very highly of that vehicle. Heck, I wouldn't mind too much driving one around.

I too like the looks of the Santa Fe and with gas prices as they are, I am wondering if my choice of a Trailblazer wasn't a little too upscale.

i think Hyundai is up and coming. They are gonna improve and be a force to reckon with. If i needed a car and had the 12K to sspend on a car, i would consider the Hyundai.

Early hyundai is to car as early emachine is to computers

I bought an Accent new last year, and i love it! The styling aint the best, and you can see that the interior was done in a way to reduce expence, but I didnt buy it for the looks of the interior. Its nice. Handles well, great on gas and decent performance. As far as how the sucker is put together, one of my dads friends who is a head engineer at a major bus designer and manufacturer had a long look at one and bought one as well. As for how it does in an accident, some b#tch made an illegal left turn accross my lane coming from the other direction, hit my front driver side and sent me across the lane into a transit bus stopped at a red light. Needless to say there was major damage to the car and i came out unhurt. The car was repaired (10,000 cnd, cost me 17,000 including all taxes) and drives just like it was brand new! No noticable differences at all!! I love my accent!
