I"m currently living abroad and doing my best to job hunt for when I come back to the U.S in a couple months.

My resume and cover letter is pretty clear on explaining my situation, detailing my main residence is in the U.S, but currently and temporarily. living abroad. I don't need visa sponsorship, etc etc.

However, on the company website and their application page, I'm putting my international home address and international phone number. I'm not sure how HR reviews the application, but will this have a negative effect on my search (i,e they won't even look through my resume because they assume I"m a foreigner)?

I'm wondering if it is better to use my parents U.S address and subscribe to a U.S Skype phone number.

^ this. And recruiters are looking at tons of resumes, if they have to even think "can I even dial this number?" there is a chance they will pass.

Also, I would just put the parents U.S address and leave it at that, if you're taking up space doing the international thing they may get confused.

Unless you're an exceptional, highly sought-after candidate in whatever it is you do, nobody will waste their time on somebody who may be back in the US in a couple of months. A recruiter certainly won't take a chance on you.

If you are the most qualified then they will contact you, if you aren't... well, you should probably just make it as easy for them to contact you as possible. I know a couple who live in Switzerland and a company here in Irvine, CA flew her out at their expense for a couple rounds of interviews.

Its not like its hard to get a free voip number these days. Callcentric offers free incoming calls. Just setup one of the many voip apps on your phone.

You know how you can kind of teach a monkey to read? Not that the monkey really understands what he's looking at, but he can maybe recognize what a certain word looks like, then perhaps point at it, make a hooting sound, and then defecate and throw his feces across the room.

This is pretty much how you should picture HR looking at resumes. They are not going to read your cover letter, they are just looking to see if you have 10 years experience in Sharepoint 2012 or whatever. An international address and phone number is going to frighten and confuse them. Your goal is to get your resume into the hands of someone competent, and if you must go through HR to do so, there can't be anything out of the ordinary in the way.
